The Barndominium Beginnings

Farmers have been combining their living spaces with barns for centuries. They were the original barndominium trendsetters. Only recently it has become a more popular choice, rather than a choice made purely for practical or logistical purposes. In 1989, real estate developer Karl Nilsen coined the term “barndominium”. He’s not a regular developer, he’s a cool developer. Initially, the term was used to describe properties that offer a house (or land) along with boarding facilities for the residents’ horses, but as all cool things do, it has evolved.

The Evolution and Benefits of Barndos

Today’s barndominiums may be new builds or existing barns that have been retrofitted to make them livable. They are becoming more and more popular every day, and we understand why. Whether you're looking for a spacious and comfortable living space or an affordable option that is easy to maintain, a barndominium is definitely worth considering. Here are some of the benefits of choosing a barndominium:

1. Cost savings. Barndominiums are often more affordable than traditional homes. This is because they can be constructed using recycled materials or by converting an existing barn or other structure. This is totally great because it leaves more room in the budget.

2. Space efficiency. Barndominiums can be smaller than traditional homes, which makes them more efficient in terms of space; however, since they are completely customizable, we can build them to whatever size you want. Speaking of customization…

3. Customization options. With a barndominium, you have the option to customize the interior to your own specifications. You can choose the layout, the finishes, and even the appliances. This gives you the ability to create a home that perfectly suits your needs and lifestyle. When it comes to customization options, “the limit does not exist”.

4. Versatility. One of the best things about barndominiums is their ability to fit into any style, whether it is country charm, contemporary, or craftsman, we can get you the look. They are like the swiss army knife of the home world, and we are here for it.

If you're looking for a home that can be exactly what you dream of (one that the inventor of toaster strudel would be pleased to hear about) a barndominium may be just what you need! At Beaver Creek Construction we can work with you on a custom plan or you can pick from our stock floor plans.
